Years ago Benjamin Franklin wanted to have street lights in the City of Philadelphia. He didn’t campaign for them. He said nothing about them. He simply built a light and mounted it on a post in front of his house. Other noticed it, were impressed by it, and had one built for their homes. One after another followed the example until the entire city was lighted.
The scriptures remind us to let our light shine. Live according to Christian values. Build your house, your faith on rock not sand. Stand for what is right. Uphold and support what is worthy and honest. Let Christ be the rule and guide of your life. Remember, your life is the only Bible some people will ever read. What kind of reading do you make?
Prayer: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us. Teach us the meaning of the unconditional love which knows no boundary. Give us a shock of righteous indignation when any suffer or go hungry, or are abused or unfairly treated. And grant us a mouth to speak boldly your word of hope. Now may Christ’s light illuminate our paths so we will see the way to follow. Spread your mantel of love over the men and women serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Jesus’ name. Amen. |
